I have examined the colors of international maritime signal flags used at sea to communicate at a distance, as a way of connecting land and sea and to explore the communication between them. With the lighthouse and the pandemic in mind, I have chosen different flags that are being used to warn other seafarers of various dangers.

Historically, these signal flags have long been used for communication at sea and each flag has an individual meaning, but they can also represent a letter or number and they can be put together to form words. It is a simple and international way of communicating at sea and the flags' patterns and colors are designed so that they are easy to see and understand at a distance. These flags are a historical means of communication that has been efficient and functional enough to survive into our times. Both history and the present are thus present in the signal flags, in the same way as they are present in the quarantine.

Documentation of the work was exhibited in Galleri KiT during Open Academy, together with a QR-code. The visitors could scan the code and receive the exact location of the cotton ribbons. A QR-code had also been placed at the location of the ribbons, and if the people who passed by scannad that code, they would receive the directions to Galleri KiT.
